Grandma's Breakfast Casserole
This is a recipe I ate many times as a kid, usually when we were visiting my grandparents in Eastern Washington. I can still smell the eggy, cheesy goodness as my grandma plates me up. Grandma June has passed, but she always feels close when this comes piping hot out of the oven. IT'S SO GOOD, make it and FEEL GRANDMA JUNE'S LOVE.
Ingredients
- 8 slices day old french bread or 1 bagguette
- 6 large eggs
- 1 lb Jimmy Dean's breakfast sausage (cook ahead)
- 2 2/3 c. milk
- 2 c. sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
- 1 can cream of mushroom
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
Instructions
- Mix bread and sausage in lasagna-sized dish.
- Mix together the eggs and 2 1/2 c. milk. Pour over bread and sausage, refrigerate overnight
- Sleep and dream of breakfast.
- Mix can of mushroom soup with 2/3 c. of milk and dry mustard. Pour over bread and sausage. Sometimes I mix it sometimes I just layer it.
- Bake for 1 hour at 350 deg.
I like to hit it with a little broil action and top my serving with hot sauce (Usually Crystal's).
